BAWSO was one of the first organisations to listen to abused women and children from black and ethnic minority communities, to work with survivors and to recognise the prevalence of any forms of abuse.

A number of studies prove a strong link between domestic abuse and child abuse. BAWSO has learnt that children who have witnessed violence or have been subjected to violence require high levels of support.

Although research in this field is still largely lacking, it has been agreed that Domestic Abuse is highly relevant to the child's present and future well-being, and that there is a significant overlap with child abuse.
