Childcare
CHILDCARE PROJECT
The majority of women who use our service have large families with most of the children under school age. When children come into the refuge they may have left their only friends and relatives and might also have been subjected to abuse.
BAWSO acknowledges that these children need as much support as mums. We therefore employ Childcare Support Workers who do a variety of work with the children individually and in groups. We also work closely with schools, social services, health services and other children's organisations.
Will my children have the opportunity to go to school?
Yes, the childcare worker will liaise with you in relation to your child's education.
Will my children have a room to play?
Each refuge has a play room where childcare worker runs supervised play sessions. Each garden is set with children's play equipments as well as other communal areas where children can play.
Can my children bring his/her pet?
No, pets are not allowed in the Refuge.
My son is over 16; can he come to the Refuge too?
Unfortunately no. The presence of 16 year old boys in the Refuge is not in line with the needs of women fleeing domestic abuse. But we can always refer him to an appropiate organisation who can give him support.
