Why donate?

BAWSO's refuge offers safety for Black and Minority Ethnic women and their children fleeing Domestic Violence. The effects of Domestic Violence on women and children are widely reported. Women leaving their homes, and their community, have made an often irreversible decision to leave. Children who have experienced and/or witnessed domestic violence are likely to be affected by the distress and disruption to their lives, whether they have been directly or indirectly abused.

Staff services and volunteers provide a valuable combination of informal and formal support to women and children. Your donations can help them to minimise the disruption to the lives of women and children living in the refuge, and help to build a positive experience away from violence.

What sort of things can I donate?

Books, clothes, toys, household items, bric a brac, pots, pans, cutlery, furniture etc.

How will my donation be used?

When women and children arrive at the refuge they may have brought very few belongings with them and when they leave the refuge they may need things for their new home. During half term and summer holidays, activities are organised for the children, and the refuge has a play room. A homework club also takes place after school to minimise disruption to education. Any toys, or books (for women and children) would be most welcome. Also bric a brac, kitchen equipment, household items, toys and clothes can help us to raise money for the women and children to go on trips, which gives them the chance to socialise and build networks, and can help to develop communication skills, confidence and self esteem.
