Why people stay
People from BME background may often stay with an abusive partner because they:
• Have language barriers and therefore unable to seek help
• Are being totally controlled
• Have no support network
• May not be aware of the help available.
• May feel they have no where to go
• Have low self-esteem and a severe lack of confidence.
• Feel incapable of leaving the relationship because it will bring shame.
• Believe that the perpetrator will change.
• Want children to grow up with both parents
• Fear that the perpetrator will find and kill them
• Do not want to be isolated from the family.
• May be scared of the future.
• May still care about their partners.
• fear being deported or have insecure Immigration status,
• Are being blackmailed
